Let's talk about Eric Cole for a second
Eric Cole, who was a rookie on the PGA Tour last year at age 34, is back at it again this year and is off to a solid start. Let's take a look at his finishes thus far on the PGA Tour in 2024.
The Sentry: T14, -22
Sony Open: T13, -12
The American Express: T21, -20
And he's in the field again this week at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.
I love this guy for how much he plays. Dude just loves golf. Hard to deny a guy that sticks with it, absolutely loves the grind and playing. It's inspirational to see a guy in his 30's do this and be having the type of success he is.
He doesn't strike you as a guy that is pumping out top 20 finishes like a Scheffler, or Max Homa , yet he is. Certainly at 5 ft 9', 155 lbs. he's not going to impose on any opponents out there. But the golf ball doesn't care.
The strongest parts of his game so far this year are his putting, and scrambling, where he ranks in the top 20 in both categories strokes gained on tour.
I've heard golf commentators talk about his ball striking and how good it is. If the ball striking comes around and putter stays hot, this could be a great year for Mr. Cole.
Official world golf ranking of #38 as of 1/23/24. Where do we think he'll be at the end of the Open Championship in 6 months? Dark horse President's Cup pick? That's probably getting ahead of ourselves at the moment, but you never know.
I'm bullish.
